ok this might be a stupid thread but i was wondering umm.
where was the third during the 9 tails attack? why wasnt he fighting it with the 4th?? i mean at that time the leaf had 2 hokages [with one stepped down] and the third was taught the sealing jutsu the fourth used. so why didnt he aid him while they fought?? i have never even seen him fighting the 9 tails or here him talk about fighting it for that matter.
so what happned to the third during the attack on the leaf??

He was retired. Remember he was old and in no shape to fight Orochimaru much less Kyuubi.

are you kidding me? he was a leaf shinobi still and trust me he could still fight.
he wouldnt have took on the title of hokage again if that was the case.
and he isnt the type to say "oh look my villige is being torn apart by a large chakra monster. but im to old to fight." he would is the type who would fight with just his feet if he had to.

I'm guessing he suggested it but didn't have the chakra resevoirs to pull off sealing the Kyuubi. I guess only Minato did at the time. Plus Minato had the specific idea of sealing the good chakra in Naruto so he probably protested to the Third trying to seal the Kyuubi.

No the 3rd seemed to know the intentions of the 4th sealing the fox into his own son. Thats why he was charged with looking after Naruto.

It seems plausible that the 3rd and 4th had a breif discussion of what should be done. The 3rd may have volunteered to go and battle the fox but the 4th persuaded him to let him handle it as the acting hokage.

with my post I just meant that the 4th didnt't really beat the 9-tails,
but was just able to seal it...by giving up his own life...

beating the 9-tailed seems impossible to me... and tbh, I personally WOULD say
he semi-beat him :/ as the 9-tailed is still alive and theoretically able to escape
his prison under certain circumstances...
