I dunno, I think it's more likely that she is crying because of whatever is on their backs is shameful (perhaps a brand similar to what Arlong did to Nami) and she respects what Luffy is doing by covering it. Obviously it doesn't change people into stone that is Boa's DF power and they probably made up the story in order to avoid anyone seeing what is on their backs. You can also judge this by their reaction when Luffy saw Boa bathing; They weren't shock he wasn't becoming stone until Boa tried using her Mero Mero powers. I think next weeks chapter may be a flash back explaining what is on their backs and how they got it. Personally, I think Boa seems too young and immature to be Luffy's mother.
Spoiler script for this chapter are now in the Spoiler Thread
wow!!!! i so want to read it!!
wow, thanks once again popoy xD, nice chapter..
Hancock: LEAVE RIGHT NOW OR TURN TO STONE ALIVE, UAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAAA
Whatever's on their backs, or on just Hancock's back, it's definitely got to be something Luffy has seen before.
Speaking of what marks Luffy has seen, the most recent one that he could have seen would've been the cancel-signed smilie that's featured on the slavery auction house (DonFlamingo's so-called symbol).
So that would mean...

...Which reminds me! Looks like the latest theory to spring up about the sisters' backs is that they're hiding a brand of slavery. I have to admit, Hancock's earlier line about how she'd rather die than reveal her back to anyone, along with her reaction at the end of this chapter would certainly make sense if that were the case. After seeing how rough slaves had it in Sabaody, it would be no wonder Hancock and her sisters would go out of their way to hide their backs from their subjects....
Hancock and her sisters used to be slaves? If so, then I wonder if they suffered at the ownership of one of the Tennrybito. It would make a whole lot of sense why she doesn't want to follow the orders of the WG.
I'd bet twenty bucks she'd be surprised as heck that Luffy has actually been to that heck-hole, to rescue someone who's race is heavily discriminated against, and creamed one of those rotten Nobles whilst there for shooting a fishman. ^_^

i guess your right on something...this is the same arc, everything is connected..so that theory of her being a slave is possible...and it could be she was a tenrioubito wife or something like that...i bet her past was harsh in that geographyc area
Speaking of tennryubito wives, I wonder if she was one to the same bastard Luffy socked in the face (Charloss Sei, if I'm not mistaken; I hate that mangy git).
Well, at least that mark-on-their-backs wasn't another one of those random incidents like the one with Duval (though I think the Duval incident was more comic relief than what this one involves).
yeah duval is like an intro to a new reality..........
i so want to read the new chapter!!!!
OR hypothetically speaking boa could have been branded as the shichibukai sex toy, seeing as she's the only woman in the group so far :3
