Listen: If one isn't able to beat another that doesn't mean another cant beat the other (i know you think this is crap but it is logic). Think about the chakra elements: Water beats fire, earth beats water, lightning beats earth etc. it's like a cicle. So if Jiraiya didn't beat Pain that doesn't mean Kakashi can't beat him.

i voted close call
ofc in a fight pein would trash his ass
But the reason i think it would a be a close call is because no one will win....
remember kakashi is VERY smart and not be underestimated, remember his dad was not far off the same power as a legendary Sannin and he defiantly wouldn't be going into this fight with out a game plan. and will try and work out a way to defeat him and hopefully pass that information on to someone with a better chance e.g naruto... (without dieing) XD that the hard bit
not actually try and kill him
and the fact that naruto will be coming back i think
i wouldn't be surprised if he saves kakashi life
and naruto and pein have a little fight

i am also interested in the 8 tails as well

Kakashi isn't stupid enough to just appear in peins face without a plan, since he always tells naruto not to rush in to battle.lol
Kakashi will most likely get 2-3 of peins bodies with his dimension mangekyu,

Im sure j-man taught naruto the amazing n pwning instant transportation technique the late minato once pwned with,
So that's how I think kakashi will survive
Pein will be amazed with kakashis superior skills, as so will kakashi
Kakashi will be tired n weak at some point, and right when pein is gonna slaughter him..
Naruto will appear along side kakashi since kakashi owns one of yondaimes special kunai

if he followed his dad (yondaime's) there be no need for him to train really lol he was amazing.

No, if Kakashi can't beat Itachi, what makes you think he can beat Itachi's leader (essentially). Pain is probably one of the strongest unmatched characters we've seen so far.

you guys do remeber the encounter between kakashi and orochimaru right???
kakashi was scared shitless and knew he was no match for orochimaru,
while orochimaru and jiraiya was an equal fight.
jiraya=pwned by pein meaning kakashi =more pwned by pein
only thing that will help kakashi is gai or more ninjas like shikamaru!
