Like most people said use Winrar. It's really good and I cant live without it xD. It isnt free but like mIRC you get a pop-up window (this one without waiting, so it really isnt a problem).

Winrar is free, but a dumb pop-up box always comes to say it is free. It is kind of like unregistered IRC. Here's a registered one: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FAHV3H8T

WinRAR is not freeware. It is shareware ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shareware ). Meaning unless you buy it or crack it (which is most probably illegal in most places), it will nag you to buy it.

I recommend you use 7-zip ( [replacer_a] ) or if you like a program with a shiny GUI, PeaZip ( [replacer_a] ) (both are freeware and open source). They can extract ZIP, RAR and 7z, among other file compression formats.

7-zip and PeaZip can also compress to the superior 7z format (http://www.7-zip.org/), which is also an open format, unlike RAR, which due to its proprietary (non free & non open source) nature can only be compressed by WinRAR and other programs that are licensed to do so by the WinRAR author.

Also, when compressing ZIP files, 7-Zip uses a home-brewed DEFLATE encoder which is often able to achieve higher compression levels than the more common DEFLATE implementation of zlib ( http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ ).

Winrar and 7zip are both free and both fine to use...don't really think about differences.

i downloaded winrar like a long time ago and i noticed earlier that it said "17 days left to buy license"
and i got it from the same place as that link
is there a free one that isnt a trial?
idk which to get, i just need one thatll be in english, my computer runs on mostly 64bit stuff

Don't worry about it. Even after the trial period is over on winrar, you'll still be able to use it.
