ULTIMO: Stan Lee with Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King)
Spider-Man co-creator Lee to discuss work at New York Comic Con on April 18
The official Japanese website of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine has revealed the first finalized image from Karakuridōji Ultimo, the new series from Spider-Man and X-Men co-creator Stan Lee and Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei. (In the linked page, select the two center characters.) The series will be previewed in the premiere issue of the Jump SQ.II spinoff, which will ship on April 18.
Viz Media has also announced that it will hold a press event at New York Comic Con on the project on that same day. Lee, Jump Square Editor Takanori Asada, and Viz's Shonen Jump Editor-in-Chief Marc Weidenbaum will appear at the event to discuss the work. Viz has also indicated that more news will be announced. The story of Ultimo revolves around two figures — Vice and Ultimo — who appear in the skies above Farmless City. Their super-powered clashes bring destruction upon the city and raises the questions of their origins and aims.
The press release quotes Lee as saying, “I am deeply honored for this great opportunity to collaborate with an award-winning artist/writer of the stature of Hiroyuki Takei. I enthusiastically expect that the combination of an American story-telling style merged with Takei-san's acclaimed Japanese style will result in our joint creation Ultimo presenting an original, exciting type of manga that will appeal to comic book fans around the world.”
Wow, those characters look pretty awesome.
I don't know about the characters, I'm not a great fan of Takei. They're fine.
But seriously, I hated the man since I read Shaman King's ending. I don't care about the problems they had, it was the worst thing ever. It felt he was f**king with his readers. And I had f**king bought the volumes. Rant over.
Seeing that Stan Lee is the one writing it, it might be better than expected. Stan is the Man.
well he wouldn't be writing it lol
If i was judging the entire thing from the name and the characters appearance i would say it looks like one of the best new series in quite a while hehe...
And considering that Stan Lee's on the team i know it will be well made... even if he doesn't write it, he won't let them make it crap =D
It wasn't his fault, blame jump. That was the whole point of the tangerine thing, it was "unfinished." He is going to retcon that and put up an alternate ending. One last chapter one 180 something page chapter which he will finally finish Shaman King.
