The Obito to Tobi Transformation Challenge

Chapter 600 is just around the corner, and many questions will be answered in cluding the identity of Tobi.

Lets Go along with the Tobi = Obito idea, and assume it to be true.:-

Would someone who believes this to be so, and who has a strong understanding of the Manga, Please fill in the blanks as to the most probable essential facts and details that transpired Between the Rock Fall that appeared to take the life of Obito, and the Tobi-Kyuubi Invasion of Konoha, some 2-4 years later.

Just What happened to Obito to have transformed him form a severely injured kid on the verge of death, who was a slacker of a ninja at best, to an extremely highly skilled, and probably the most dangerous foe overall, that Konoha has ever faced.

Assuming Tobi is Obito, then How? The person who can show the most insight and guess the most correct meaning to Tobi =Obito before chapter 600 comes out, also gets recognition and bragging rights..

Well personally, I think the evidence points towards Izuna, but I'll take a crack at some fanfiction!

1. Obito, dead and trapped under rubble, is found by Zetsu shortly after his death, who then brings news of Obito's whereabouts to Madara.

2. Madara, who realizes that his death is drawing near (possibly due to limitations / side effects of the Rinnegan), has need of a vassal to carry out his plans and ensure his revival.

3. Madara uses his Rinne-tensei, perhaps for the first time, to revive Obito, whom Madara then augments with Hashirama's cells to repair Obito's devastated body.

4. Madara proceeds to brainwash Obito in much the same way that Tobi seeks to brainwash Sasuke. Obito is unstable after having died, and filled with bitterness after learning of Kakashi's failure to honor Obito's sacrifice and protect Rin. Latching on to Madara's vision of the Moon's Eye Plan, and filled with Madara's hatred of the Senju and disdain for the concept of "hope", Obito becomes to Madara what Kabuto was to Orochimaru, a pawn who seeks to both imitate and surpass his master. However, unlike Kabuto, who sought to fill the gap in his identity by stealing Orochimaru's, Obito seeks instead to rid himself of Madara's shortcomings by becoming a "perfect" Madara, No One.

5. During this time of grief, and under the tutelage of Madara, Obito has already unlocked the power of his single Mangekyou, granting him the warping ability. He is tested in much the same way that Tobi himself tested Sasuke, but has a much easier time letting go of his own identity and falling completely into darkness. However, due to the limitations of his body, Obito is not yet ready to wield the power of Madara's Rinnegan, which instead is transferred to Nagato just before Madara's death.

6. Obito is charged with managing the Moon's Eye Plan in Madara's absence, and manipulates Nagato's group to form the Akatsuki.

7. However, Obito is overly anxious to get things under way, and launches the Kyuubi attack against Konoha; the attack is personally symbolic to Obito as a way of proving his superiority to the real Madara, who's own Kyuubi attack failed. Obito also still feels bitterness towards Konoha. However, upon failing to destroy Konoha or keep his hold on the Kyuubi, Obito is forced to wait for Nagato and the Akatsuki to mature, and just like Madara, gives up the idea of acting on his own. Obito adopts the Classic Tobi philosophy of manipulation over personal involvement in battle.

8. In the wake of the Kyuubi attack, Obito manipulates the hatred within Konoha to destroy the Uchiha Clan. Doing so, Obito carries out vengeance against the clan for succumbing to the Senju and betraying Madara, and also grants Obito access to countless Sharingan (the True purpose of which remains unknown). Also, the Uchiha are the only clan capable of posing a threat to the Bijuu that Obito intends to collect, as well as other aspects of Tobi's war.

9. With time, Obito begins to realize that he can use Sasuke, a healthy, vulnerable young Uchiha with the potential to truly surpass Madara, to complete the Moon's Eye Plan on his own. Obito strays from his role as a mere vassal, and instead seizes the opportunity to become the Master instead of the servant. He even develops an obsession with forcing Sasuke to follow Madara's footsteps, which represents Obito's surpassing of Madara by becoming the Master. Sasuke, ruled by the same hatred and pride that ruled Madara (and rendered him imperfect, in Obito's eyes), is easily lead down this path. Sasuke also represents, to Obito/Tobi, the unstable boy that Obito had been, and so Obito purges himself of that memory by acting as "Madara". He even uses the same speeches that Madara once used on him, posing as Madara and usurping Madara's history and identity.

10. Unfortunately for Obito, Kabuto has revived the real Madara, whom Obito still fears; due to his own limitations, Obito cannot wield the full power of Madara's Rinnegan, which he uses only sparingly, and only in one eye, relying instead on the power of his Sharingan. With Sasuke far from ready, and the war already in motion, Tobi is forced into an uneasy alliance, but rushes to accomplish his plans before Madara has a chance to intervene.

11. Along the way, Obito's greatest obstacle is Naruto, who represents everything that Obito despises. As the heir to the Senju Will of Fire, Naruto represents the ancient enemy of the Elder Brother Ideology. As the son of Minato and the Kyuubi Jinchuuriki, Naruto represents Obito's past failure to prove himself superior to Madara. What is more, Naruto is the son of the sensei Obito betrayed, and Naruto's own sensei is Kakashi, the man Rin truly loved, the man who now holds Obito's missing eye and renders him incomplete, and the man who's broken promise destroyed Obito's last threads of hope/love. Naruto is virtually immune to the story of hopelessness and hatred that manipulated Obito, Nagato, and Sasuke. Nagato, in seemingly no time at all, chose to give his life betting on Naruto's Hope, throwing aside the careful brainwashing that Obito himself had succumbed to. Naruto is to Obito what Hashirama was to Madara, his Achilles Heel. Naruto's very existence threatens to disprove the "No One" philosophy that defines Obito, and also threatens the entire Moon's Eye Plan. Most importantly, Naruto is the last person with the potential to influence Sasuke; while Obito never had a loyal friend to help him fight against Madara's ideology of hatred and hopelessness, Sasuke still has Naruto to remind Sasuke of who he truly is. While at first Obito was determined to use his Mini-Madara, Sasuke, to destroy Naruto and everything Naruto stands for, Obito is now forced once again to risk himself in battle, due to the pressing threat of Madara's intervention and Naruto's own growth in power.

Thus ends my fanfic detailing EXACTLY how Obito became the final villain of the Narutoverse. Feel free to poke as many holes in it as possible, I'm sure I screwed up the timeline a few times or interpreted various characters' actions/motives in absurd ways. When we learn Tobi's real identity, I'm sure we'll look back on this story (and all the Obito = Tobi arguments) and laugh. And yes, I realize how big that wall of text is.

I couldn't fit my theory to match the evidence that Tobi fully intended to use Nagato's Rinne-Tensei to revive the real Madara; my only explanation is that Tobi scrapped that idea after Nagato's betrayal, and instead decided to use Sasuke in the ways I've (vaguely) described. Who knows, maybe Tobi wanted the Rinne-Tensei to revive Rin!!!

I really like the parallels between Izuna/Madara and Sasuke/Itachi, and I believe that Izuna himself fits better with most of what I've said about Tobi's history than Obito does. With Madara possessing Rinne-Tensei, neither Izuna's death nor Obito's has any bearing on the likelihood of one of them being Tobi.

A spiky shadow: Just as planned, it awakened... but we lost one of the eyes to another boy and the vessel itself is near death. Even if we infuse him with Hashirama Cells, he might never wake up.

A shadow with long hair: What about his performance ?

A spiky shadow: Above 200%, surpassed Uchiha Shisui's levels.

A shadow with long hair: Then it's worth the risk. Infuse him with Hashirama's power... and one more thing, continue monitoring his "friends" and people close to him, he will have questions when he awakens... and we will give him the answers, whether they will be pleasant or not.

| Chapter I: A boy awakens to Nightmare ! |

- Dark Cave - In the middle of night -

Obito: ...where is this ? It's dark in here, where is everybody ? Ah the light ! Huh !? This, this is our village ! Everybody, Rin, Kakashi, Sensei. I'm back, hey everybody, 'Phasing', wha... I phased through them !? Wait, Rin can't you see me ? Can't you hear me !? Ugh (my body is heavy and I'm falling beyond the ground !!!) No, why this, this darkness, no, everyone don't leave me, I want to stay with everybody a bit longer ! NOOOOOOOOOO !

Obito: 'Pant', 'Pant', 'Pant', darkness... am I dead ?

A shadow with long hair: Not quite. To the outside world, yes, but in reality, no.

Obito: Huh ? Who are you ? !!! Those eyes glittering in darkness, yet their unfamiliar shape, could they be MS ?

A shadow with long hair: Yes, at least I don't have to explain that. I am Uchiha Madara.

Obtio: Uchiha... Madara ?

Madara: Impudence, to think that Shinobi World and my clan have already forgotten about me. Very well, I will remind them of myself soon enough.

Obito: Wait, where am I ?

Madara: In my hideout, it have been half a year, since your supposed death.

Obito: !? Wha ? What about the war ? What about sensei ? What about Kakashi ?! What about RIN !?!?! (trying to stretch my hand towards the shadow with red light, I realized the truth, that my body was no longer the same). This !? Did, did you cut my arms off ?! And what are those plants growing out my body ?! Answer me !

Madara: I don't have to answer anything, but since your condition has stabilized... Zetsu, show him everything that happened, I'm leaving in order to make other preparations.

Zetsu: Ah little boy, are you ready to embrace the truth ? But first let me put you to sleep.

- A week later -

Madara: ...are you awake ? Have you opened your eyes ? Have you found what you searched for ?

Obito: ...awake ? With open eyes ? What I searched for !? Don't give me this shi*, I don't believe in anything you have showed me, you are just a villain that tries to manipulate me !

Madara: If I wanted to bind you to my will, I would simply use the power my eyes. All I showed you is truth, the way this wretched world works, the way it is, the way it was and the way it will be. It's time to wake up from foolish dreams, they are nothing more than illusions covering up ugly reality.

Obito: No ! I don't believe you, I never will !

Zetsu: Ahhhh, this whole weak nothing by denial. Maybe we should retrieve the eye and dispose of the boy ?

Obito: !! You want to steal my remaining eye !?

Madara: Hahaahahaha, your eye ? From the very beginning it was mine.

Obito: !?

Madara: Haven't you noticed ? Didn't you find it strange, that you were the only one from the Uchiha that had problems with eyes from birth ?

Obito: That, my eyes were just sensitive to dust, nothing more.

Zetsu: In denial again, ehhhhh, this will take awhile.

Madara: Very well, if images don't convey to you, then perhaps words will. Your eyes were originally main. Those are the eyes I was born which. Ones that I trained and then, as the first in history, proceeded beyond Sharingan, to MS. I gained tremendous power, but there was a price for it. In time the user would become blind, regardless of using them, what's more the more I used them the faster I was loosing light. The only way to avoid it, was to switch which my brother's eyes. Unfortunately, only I gained a new power, EMS... I was already blind, so it didn't work for my brother. There was no way to give them light again... that is until I have awoken to the Circle of life. Life, Death and finally Reincarnation. After understanding them completely, I theorized, that if I were to lead my old eyes through some sort of reincarnation, they would regain their light. Of course, real reincarnation wouldn't work, since there existed the possibility of them loosing their powers, my power that they were filled which.

Obito: A reincarnation of eyes ? Are you fooling which me, I never heard of something as ridiculous as that !

Zetsu: Naturally, since no one ever tested it, well, until noooowwwwww.

Madara: In short, I implanted my eyes, while you where still in a womb of your mother, so that the eye as well as you would become one and the same, of course with my spiritual power in them. You were born with light in you eyes, but even after birth you still needed time to accustom to them and there was no sign of Sharingan or my power being present within you... but finally they have awakened and now you are here. Everything is in place.

Obito: Then, I'm nothing more than your sick experiment, just like that guy !?

Zetsu: Oh please, don't put it that way. I'm more of a refined being just as you, kukukuku.

Madara: You were merely an attempt, in order to test the theory and prepare for the future. Of course you are still valuable. Your eyes hold greater power than any member of the current Uchiha clan and you have reasons, similar to ours to change this forsaken world. Join us, we have cookies.

Obito: I... I can't, I will not ! I can't forsaken everyone, even if I have no happiness myself.

Madara: It is not to forsaken them it is to save them.

Obtio: !?

Madara: Have you not see the misery that this world brought upon the ones you cared, upon yourself ?! Don't you want to change this world, this cursed reality ? If you still can't believe, then maybe you will believe your(my) own eye. Take him Zetsu and show how the world and his loved ones look, how the world revolves and how much it have to be changed.

- The next day -

Obito: ...

Madara: Are you finally awake ? Can you finally see the world for what it is and not how people paint it with lies and empty words ?

Obito: 'Raising Head' I'm fully awake and I can clearly see. I will do what needs to be done - worlds spoken with great calm, with the eye that shined with light like never before, it was an answer to his chosen path and determination, it was the key to achieve all that he needed to, it was the awakening of the Mangekyou Sharingan -.

Madara: Hmph, we will start the training immediately. At day, you will be training with me. At night, while asleep, Zetsu will pour you with every battle he has recorded, which every tactic he has seen, learn well and you will be unstoppable. But, before that, let me tell you about my plan, in which the world will not be filled with false dreams, hopes and empty words, but a world of one truth of one final illusion. Let me tell you about the Moon's Eye plan.

Damn, I was bored or what ? Anyway, it is a conception one way or the other . I tried to make it somewhat dramatic, but there is one joke in there, and a noticeable at that . If I feel like it, I might write more .

Very Nice. The main thing I would add to your Plot Prognostication would be this:

Madara Uses his Tsukuyomi extensively and skillfully to imbue Obito with knowledge of long forgotten Uchiha history, Jutsus and fighting skills.

I think this why Tobi knows about things like Izanami, Izanagi, and "Uchiha Kaejin", and how to release the Fox from the Jinchuuriki at Childbirth.

Ah well, you know. Obito is basically the only Uchiha (and a ninja in naruto as whole too ;P) that had some kind of problem with his eyes, before awakening his Sharingan (we see him use drops too), but the moment he awakened his Sharingan, the problem miracolosuly disappeared (he became accustomed to his eyes ?), not to mention his jump in performance in abilities, is bigger than in Sasuke's case. Then the fact that Tobi/Madara gave Nagato his eyes, opened new theories, like the ones where Madara gave his own Rinnegan to Nagato and if they are true, it is an extremely risky method. The possibility of loosing them, from the eyes degradation itself or something alike, would be too risky to perform without prior tests and thus, I theorized that Madara might have tested it on someone else, which eyes he no longer could use, but were equally powerful to Izuna's eyes.

I don't give that much credit to this theory, but well the possibility certainly exists. Although, Obito's spirit would overwrite Madara's MS, with his own, thus only leaving an additional Spiritual Power that Madara poured into them through years of combat and training, allowing him later on to gain new hax abilities . After all, Oro himself tested a lot with Hashirama's power and if Madara prepared himself as well as he said, then he had to proceed with some tests as well.

Funny enough, the 4th suggested that the Barrier around the village hasn't changed since Madara's time, thus Madara would have been able to pass through it without detection, in similar manner that Itachi went unnoticed (as Pain mentioned). He was rather referring to his knowledge, because it would have been strange, that no one recorded Madara's use of a Space-Time ninjutsu... on the other hand, it's not like anyone recored his use of Susanoo... well beside the Uchiha, or at least the paintings on walls in their hideouts suggest that.

1) Could be Hashirama's Miracle cells

or

2) Could be that he has not got EMS, But he has Madara's Chakra (that has undergone EMS) plus he also has Hashirama's cells. Thus, He has spirituL attributes from the Pre-eminent Uchiha with the most potent Spiritual power, combined with physical attributes from the preeminent senju with the most potent physical power, this then allows him to use the eye to it's max with or without EMS

I'd rather Tobi be someone completely obvious than someone completely new/random. Unless he's some sort of Madara clone, he'd better be one of those two. The whole point of the mystery is that we're meant to keep examining the tiny hints Kishi leaves... if he's someone new, then there's never been any point in guessing at any of it.

Who knows, maybe Tobi is just a Super Zetsu who got some of Madara's chakra and transformed himself, and has been collecting new eyes / powers ever since.

It was just explained last chapter. Only certain parts of Tobi phase. When he got hit by the Rasengan it was part of his face and his shoulder that phased. Everything else was still material.

Flashback to Obito looking up and seeing a boulder falling torward his face:

(Hypothetically) Lets say his Right eye (Tobi's jutsu) kicks in. For all intents & purposes, Obito doesnt know whats going on. All he knows is that part of him now exist in a place of absolute darkness. It would be safe to assume youre dead/about to die. Thinking this he gives his other eye to his friend. Rin would detect nothing on his right side, which might be more traumatizing than sensing blood and guts.

Zetsu finds him and fixes him, e.g., plant parts. His Tobi jutsu eye still exist because it was in another dimension. Zetsu directs Obito to Uchiha tablets and some old Madara scrolls and letters. Zetsu encourages Obito to adopt Madara's crusade citing similarities between the two Uchiha. Obito, being in an emotional state somewhere between Pein and Naruto, leans more to the darkside. Thus, we end up with Darthvader....I mean Anikin Skywalk...uhhhh....Evil Obito.
