I don't know about that...I'm pretty sure that in the context of this manga they're just talking about a Japanese martial art..

Kendo means the way of the sword. and if u guys watched the anime, you would have seen Renji, Ikkaku, Hitsugaya, Ichigo's useless friend Keigo, and the random highschooler do Kendo. They use like bamboo shoots as swords to fence. I think its supposed to be held with 2 hands, thus is the reason Kenpachi is.
