If the main, popular characters die, the readers will give up reading. And for this reason, I don't think Cross is dead. Besides, he deserves a better and more dramatc death!

But in Naruto Jiraya died, right? And in Death Note L did. And in Final Fantasy VII, Aerith did. Sometimes deaths are used to keep the readers help read the manga further, if that makes sense lol.

I repeat, Cross Falls. He could still be alive, but just mortally injured. His death would be really random. lol can you imagine if Allen killed Cross, when he said he was going to kill someone he loved. With theories of his noah side taking over, maybe he went into a werewolf-like state where he has no memories of his actions after said power took him over. Though...not saying Cross is dead. It would take 100 chapters just to own up for a proper death for him.

Like I and ISEEANDWITNESS said, supportive characters do die, as well as main characters. And his death wouldn't be random at all, it could be important to the plot, by triggering different "events" later in the story. And until next chapter comes out, don't especulate too much about it

Oh he shot himself?? Woops. Well there is innocence in his gun though...so you don't know what that could do. But I think he's still dead.

The death is random if it he does die. Your example was Jiraiya, but his death was foreshadowed for about two months before he actually died. For all purposes, Cross would have more of a place in the plot if he were still alive rather than if he died, as there are still some things left unexplained which Cross could delve into. We can't say anything until next chapter, but I'd like to believe that he is not dead. Just because it happens doesn't mean it will happen in this occasion.

I've read 167 and 168, overall, Allen is even more of a badass, and Cross.... I dont think he really shot himself... perhaps a Dream

Of course his "death" is random! How can the great Cross die of suicide! It's probably his plan to save Allen or coughescapecough. By creating another big news, probably the central will have to delay the announcement about Allen.

And I don't think Allen killed Cross, Lenalee was sleeping on his shoulder. If he left, Lenalee would notice.
