    Spoiler!

tobi/madara says "will you remain a snake or shed your serpentine scales n become a hawk"
    then we see a hawk
n in the panel nxt to it we see sasuke
so he's gonna become a hawk, that's kinda certain

according to the latest chapters, sasuke has lost all his oro powers
    he's lost the white snakes
    he's lost the cs
he might still have the snake contract, no reason for that to disappear, but he might not use it in the future
so kishi freed sasuke of oro's influence
which i take as kishi tells the readers that sasuke has "shed his serpentine scales"

but wat does "becoming a hawk" mean ?
i've seen many writers use birds as symbols
air gear - the writer uses crow to symbolise ikki, the main character
the latest being the manga "bloody monday" where the main character 'falcon' sig is a hawk
does the word "hawk" have any relation to japan's mythology ?

Well now that he's got rid of Orochimaru from his body, the proverbial scales have been shed. Now only to see where the hawk's wings take it too

I had noticed those chapter covers and thought that the whole Sasuke, Orochimaru, Cursed Seal Hawk thing had been planned from the very begining. I just wonder how long this was in the making

I agree with the general concept that Sasuke was always meant to go over to the snake and eventually become a hawk. The manga has made that point quite clear. Of course allegorical themes have always seemed to play a large role in many of the characters and how their roles relate to each other.

I think a huge theme of Sasuke's battle with Itachi was him shedding his scales, so to speak. As many have said before, Sasuke relied greatly on his power from the snake (the curse seal and Orochimaur's powers). While they offered him great power I believe they also inhibited his growth, for as he said himself for a snake who crawls on the ground the dream of flying is impossible. By shedding his scales (the snake like aspects of himself) he is now capable of growing in a new way and reach heights that were not possible until he freed himself from Orochimaru (or shed his serpentine scales).

I don't really understand how the story of the Crows and the Serpent really fit into these events though. In the story the fox helps the crows so if the fox represents Naruto and Itachi represents the crows, that just doesn't line up.

I'm guessing Naruto (the fox) helps Itachi (the crow) to open up his heart again to Sasuke (the snake) and therefore just taps his head and not try to take his eyes and making him lose his serpentine scales to become the hawk.

Although its 2 different stories snake+crow+fox and the snake+hawk, they're fitting in well with Kishi's design however he's going to conclude the story.
