Also comments about elemental Jutsu not being introduced in Naruto part 1 is simply not true. When the Third fights Orochimatu and the two other hookages, Sandaime mixes a few elements such as fire and earth together, in order to form new elements. In fact an anbu operative comments on how amazing Sandaime is for 'MIXING ELEMENTS TOGETHER FLAWLESSLY'. End of Thread.

What I think he means is that people having personal attribute elements is new. Also that elements matching up strong or weak is new. If he means that elements are new as in water style, earth style, and fire style he'd have to be special. Now rethink your posts as did you think in the beginning he knew people would have an elemental chakra, like wind. Also do you think he always planed the matchups like sasukes fire strong against naruto's wind, but his lightning chidori weak against narutos wind.

Sorry mate but the idea of elements and their un-unilateral heriarchy exists in Japanese lore and mythology and that is where Kishi draws a lot of his ideas from (such as the Sanin and Tailed beasts). In fact even the countries being named as elements has been around since the begining of Naruto i.e. fire country, Hidden mist e.c.t. It is painfully obvious that Kishi probably planned the addition of elements, as it fits in nicely with his use of Japanese myths, which appears to have influenced the story right from the begining.

Also saying an author never planned something in his work when there is no solid evidence for this (and notice I use the word solid) is not very clever.

I too wanted to believe it was just that it was a jounin thing and didn't need mentioning until now but I think Kishimoto just decided to make the "specifics" up now although he probably had the general idea of how it was supose to work now.

The Elements have always been there but it is now taking a more active role and i do think that he is adding ideas and expending on previous one to make it more interesting.

Exactly. If you check back one of the first chapters, when Sakura explains chakra control or something like that to Naruto, you'll see that the five elements are already mentioned, as in the background we have 5 chakra flames or whatever they are, tagged with the kind of element.
