Hajime no Ippo ~ George Morikawa

Was wondering if there was any other fans of Hajime no Ippo around these boards. It might better be known as Fighting Spirit as that is what Geneon called it when they released it here.

The story is about a boy named Ippo who is saved from a group of bullies one afternoon by a boxer named Takamura. Takamura takes Ippo to the Kamogawa gym to help bandage up his injuries. Letting the injured Ippo take out some agression on the sandbag the owner takes an interest in Ippo's raw natural talent. Its not long after Ippo decides to train to become a boxer.

The manga is really good at focusing on character development. You get to see a glimpse of the life story and motivations of not just the main characters, but a lot of the other boxers Ippo and them face.

The anime covers the first 34 or so volumes of the manga and the manga is still going strong at 80 volumes and 780 chapters currently out.

I watched the anime, but I don't know exactly where the anime leaves off in the manga, and I didn't feel like starting over.

If you ever wanted to start the manga the anime ends right at the start of volume 31 (ch. 269). If you've watched the OAVs the Kimura vs. Mashiba takes place after Ippo's title defense in them but in the manga it happens before.

Anyways the Kimura vs. Mashiba (same title as the OAV) takes place from ch. 270 to ch. 289 and Ippo's defense (called Champion Road as an OAV) takes place from ch. 290 to ch. 313. After that is all content that has never been animated.

Wait I'm confused. I saw all of the anime, and the OAV where ippo defends his title for the first time, against that doctor guy. So I start at...269?

If you want to see Kimura vs. Mashiba (which is an OAV that wasn't released state side) you want to read 279 through 289 and then jump to 314. If you are not to concerned with that fight (though its a great one) then just start with 314 as it directly comes after the fight with the doctor.

    Sorry to be so confusing.

    http://www.dynamiteglove.com/downloads.shtml

They have the download links for all 80 volumes. They also have download links for the most recent chapters.

Also, http://ippo-online2.confusticated.com/nav.html, has a really good manga viewer for the series from ch. 463 to recent.

According to the information on the Wikipedia, Hajime no Ippo has been running since February 17th, 1990. So it has been going for over 17 years now.

I totally adore this series! I'm at the Ippo vs. Sendo rematch for the title. No other sports anime/manga could ever be this epic. I'm hoping for some more OVA's, like the Takamura vs. Hawk match.
