    Shigurui ~ Takayuki Yamaguchi

    Shigurui by Takayuki Yamaguchi

    Summary from Baka-Updates:
At the beginning of the Edo Era, when people enjoyed a time of peace, Lord Tokugawa Tadanaga holds a fighting tournament. In the past, matches were fought with wooden swords. This time, real swords will be used. One-armed Fujiki Gennosuke and blind Irako Seigen will fight each other in this match. Both are disciples of Iwamoto Kogan, who is known as Japan's greatest swordsman. Each of them are determined to prove himself the successor of Iwamoto's school. However, there can only be one champion. So begins a story of intertwining fates, conflict, and strange destinies.

A group called Kotonoha has it ongoing, as far as I know they're the only group to release any chapters of Shigurui, though they've only got six out at present.

I also thought I should point out that this series is the furthest from a Shounen I've ever seen.

Yeah, I moved it here to the Seinen section from the Shounen section. I'm now wondering if I should have PMed the original poster though, as they don't seem to have noticed. I gave up on the anime after maybe four or five episodes, too much random gratuity, and I couldn't really follow what was going on.

Well, once you get used to the slow pacedness and the dark atmosphere, it's pretty good. It's worthy of a second season, but I doubt there will be one.

    Just finished reading this manga.

Quite the fitting ending. Really brought everything full circle.

Overall, an OK manga. Solid art, some decent characterization (mostly with Seigen) though not many sympathetic characters. It's worth a look, though it's graphic.
