The sun was dull, wiped away by the ever accumulating clouds forming above, as the five Marine ships, each about half the size of a regular Buster Call ship, sailed toward and unknown destination.
Even though the Government had successfully captured the Mugiwara’s, they made sure to take the highest precautions. First, every known Akuma no Mi user, or Devil Fruit user, had been chained with Kairoseki, or Sea Stone, to prevent them from causing any trouble. Kairoseki had also been chained to the non–Akuma no Mi users, for the simple reason that Kairoseki is harder than diamond, so it should be plenty enough to hold everyone down tightly.
To take even more safety measures, the Mugiwara’s had been separated from each other into groups of two, except on the last ship, which was only occupied by one Mugiwara. On the first ship, in the bottom cell, was Luffy and Nami. On the second, Sanji and Brook. On the third, Franky and Robin. On the fourth, Chopper and Usopp. And on the last ship was Zoro.
It was truly a depressing time for the Mugiwara’s.
Nami looked up, looking through the bared Kairoseki cell, her weary eyes traveling from an empty, dark wall to the door, which she thought she saw move. It might have just been the outside guard peeking to see if they were still settled though. She then looked over at Luffy, who hadn’t said much after being forced onto this ship. Earlier, he had done everything humanly possible to break free, but it had all been in vain.
"Luffy," she muttered, scooting a little over toward him. His face was in the corner, so she couldn’t tell his expression, or even if he was asleep. "Luffy?"
She pushed her shoulder against his to wake him up, but instead, he fell to the floor. Nami shrieked at the deeply pale face that lay in front of her. Luffy’s eyes were closed, and it looked almost like…
Nami leaned closer to Luffy’s face, hoping he wasn’t dead. He couldn’t be. He was the captain. Tears almost started to form in her eyes.
Then, suddenly, Luffy jumped into the air yelling "Uoooogh!!". Nami yelled at the top of her lungs and jumped back toward the opposite wall, followed by Luffy bursting out laughing at Nami.
"Heheh, I fooled you!" yelled Luffy, a huge grin on his face. "Hahah!"
Nami pounced at Luffy, kicking him square in the face regardless of the Kairoseki chains around her legs and ankles. Luffy hit the wall, face first, then slipped to the ground, still chuckling.
"Don’t scare me like that, Luffy!" yelled Nami, who was now still steadily kicking Luffy. "This isn’t the time to be playing around in the first place!" Eventually, she stopped, letting out a long sigh and sliding herself back against a wall. "How can you be so optimistic at a time like this?"
Luffy fixed himself into a sitting position, then slumped back onto the ground. "Uoough, it’s so hard to even play a joke when this stupid stuff is strapped on me."
"It’s called Kairoseki, and that’s why you should just stay still. This stuff takes away your energy, so you shouldn’t be jumping around like a crazy person." There was somewhat a long pause after that where neither person said anything. "I wonder what’s going to happen."
"What do you mean?" muttered Luffy. His last joke had taken away all of his energy, so just moving his lips was a struggle.
"What do you mean ‘what do I mean’?" said Nami back in a frustrated voice. "We’ve been caught by the government and are obviously on our way to Impel Down, the strongest prison in the world." Nami looked down. "There’s nothing we can do."
Luffy, even though he was almost on the verge of fainting, sat up and kind of weakly kicked Nami. "Be quiet. You’re with the future Pirate King. This is just another adventure!" Luffy then fell back completely, falling to sleep.
Nami half smiled, and leaned against the side of the wall. She had completely lost track of time, so she wasn’t sure if it was night or day. All she knew was that she had to do one thing. She had to hope that some of Luffy’s hope would wash off on her.
Sanji and Brook lay in the second ship.
"This is quite the shitty situation," muttered Sanji, blowing a little smoke from his cigarette into the air. "According to what I’ve heard, were going to Impel Down, where will probably die."
Brook was asleep. Since he had eaten an Akuma no Mi, the Kairoseki was effecting him as well. But somehow, he still said, "Not me, since I’m already dead!"
Sanji sighed, laying back and crossing his legs. There was nothing to do anymore but hope they could come up with a plan.
Over at the third ship, Robin and Franky sat. Franky was staring somewhat angrily through the bars and Robin laid weak, but awake, against a wall. There was nothing to say between these two.
One ship over, at the fourth, Usopp was shivering and shaking like there was no tomorrow. Chopper had completely gone out, too weak from the Kairoseki, leaving Usopp alone in the dark cold Cell. He wobbled around a lot, muttering things, and occasionally poking Chopper, hoping this would somehow magically bring him back. He was probably the most afraid of them all.
In the last ship slept Zoro, but not due to the Kairoseki since he wasn't an Akuma no Mi user. Even though there were in grave danger, Zoro was still relaxed.
Then suddenly, the ships stopped. Nami looked up from her cell, as did all the other Mugiwara’s, as the door’s to their cell’s swung open. One of each of the five Vice Admirals who had been in charge of the Buster Call at Ennies Lobby stood at the entrance of their cells.
"Get up," they all said in a grim voice. "Impel Down awaits."
