Yeah it's only 3 chapters, so one more to go. But I still 100% agree with your theory, and I'm positive that Bardock will become a super saiyan in the next chapter.

And bardock was too low level to ever dream of tranforming in the first place imho.
I expected to also read about the part where he destroyed himself, too bad...

The fact that he didn't, might mean that he wasn't the real first SSJ from the legend, or by becoming one, the current timeline was already changed and became different from the original. Just like the normal future, was different from the one Trunks knew about.
