Gildratz intro episode was done nicely, although I don't really remember hardly any of that in the manga. Was really that much of a father figure to Natsu?

I don't think he was in the manga but I like that demension personally. It gave him more depth.

Yeah it definitely made his character more interesting. Which is the point of anime's for the most part to get people into the original work.

Yes, it's subbed also if you look at the file name for the one you linked to you can see that it's also 480p.
