Indeed. It's far from being an exaggeration. The tsunami moved at 500mph and even deeper below the surface the speed was about 800mph; as it gets closer to the surface the speed decreases.

yeah i mean saying the s**ts about to hit the fan does not really cut it right now. because the s**t hit the fan days ago ripped through it went through the roof and is about to exit the atmosphere and smack in to the moon. we hope and pray you are all ok those of you in japan.

ok, the earthquake has been upgraded to a magnitude 9.0

The official deathtoll is 1600 which are confirmed dead. However there's still about 9600 missing from just one town, not sure if they are all dead or if they evacuated. But the final deathtoll will easily surpass 10,000. New reports are that tens of thousands missing in various towns especially sendai, the hardest hit town.

4 shinkansen trains running near the coast are now missing, each train carried hundreds of passengers.

A Volcano nearby Japan started spewing ash, not sure if that poses any threat as of now.

The worst threat right now is the nuclear reactors, 4 are now in danger, and they believe 2 of them might've already melted down. Cesium Radiation has leaked into the atmosphere, but they're not sure what effect it will have on the area.

One good thing is that the reactors which produced a total of 450 megawatts of electricity shut down according to protocol soon after the earthquake/tsunami. What is happening now is the residual heat from the cores, which is roughly half of 1% of the original output is giving them trouble, that's what they're trying to get under control. What this means is that we won't have a Chernobyl in the middle of Japan cause Chernobyl meltdown occured at full power. The meltdown if it has happened already will most likely render the plant useless and cordon off least 2-3 miles of area around the plant tho. Right now they've evacuated 6 miles.

^ Damn not liking that, here I thought they got a good warning about the Tsunami and fled before it happen seeing on how not many reports of dead were said. That toll sounds more of the real outcome sadly.

@ Thsv Was reading the article you linked about the second nuclear plant and this quote is just mind boggling from it. Can't believe they said that. "If there is an explosion, however, there would be no significant impact on human health."

I don't really remember the name of the movie probably was that one though sounds like it fits what I remember watching.

Damn so Tsunami's really move that fast, well I guess it makes sense since the picture wwdotcom showed it reached hawaii in only about 3 hours and west coast around 8 hours. Also adding the 800mph underwater movement notes Azy just stated. Damn that's unimaginably scary it's true.

Do we know how far the Tsunami went on land? Like how many miles?

about 2 miles inland. Usually the Tsunamis arrive roughly an hour after the earthquake, that's what the japanese emergency drills prepared for, but the earthquake was so powerful, that the Tsunami reached japanese coast in 9 minutes, absolutely devastating the towns, before many could evacuate to safety. It was 23 feet high waves.

Btw, there were 3-4 foreshocks of 6-7 magnitude before the big one of 9.0 magnitude earthquake. Since then there have been over 200 aftershocks, one of 8.0 magnitude which is an earthquake in itself, 5 of 7.0 magnitude, 20 of 6.0 magnitude, and rest over 5.0 magnitude. Some of these aftershocks can go on for months, so it's not over yet.

^ That's some jaw dropping information you just posted. Only took 9 minutes as oppose to a hour for that Tsunami to arrive?!! Now I know they aren't exaggerating with the wave speeds for sure. When I used to run every day I could only run 2 miles in about 11-13 minutes tops.

Still a ton of earthquakes, so the plates are literally moving under and above each other as we speak. At a faster rate than normal? Or is this just a normal occurrence overall just with a devastating one this time around?

It is showing NHK World, japan's english news station, right now. I highly suggest you watch it, very informative. There was some terrifying and amazing video (like a bus on top of a 3 story building) and some very heartbreaking stories.

Also have some good news, Fukushima nuclear reactors 1 and 3's cooling systems are up and running and are working efficiently, no risk of meltdown in those. However reactor 4's water level dropped and it's rods were exposed 2 and half meters, so they most likely melted. The cooling system for it failed, they'll try fixing it again tomorrow (monday japan time), I think they're pumping seawater into it.

Some more 7.0 aftershocks are expected till thursday.

And there's snow coming on the mountain sides, but the weather is clear for the next 7 days for most of japan, so that's good news, cause a typhoon would've only made things worse.

Japan has had a massive earthquake, hundreds of aftershocks, a tsunami, a possible volcanic eruption nearby (not sure where that happened), and an atomic emergency, possible meltdown, so if a typhoon were to happen, and Godzilla were to show up, that would only be putting salt on japan's wounds.
