Naruto's relationship with the nine tails

Hi all,

These are just some thoughts about Naruto and the nine tail fox throughout the series so far. I thought it would be a good idea to break this up into two parts; Naruto's perpective and the fox's perpective.

Naruto's Perpective

Sage mode as stated by Pa frog only can be achieved by people who have large amounts of chakra and the gutsiest. Now as we all know Naruto managed to master sage mode, but why was Naruto able to master sage mode and not Jiraya? So the only think I could think of that separated them was the nine tail fox. Naruto actually if you think about it has been training for sage mode his whole life. Naruto’s chakra circulatory system has been trying to find an equilibrium with nine tails fox’s chakra ever since it was sealed in him. I believe his experience in handling the nine tail’s chakra essentially an external chakra source like natural energy, allowed him to handle natural energy easier and hence mastered sage mode. Though the nine tails stopped Pa frog from fusing with Naruto for unlimited sage chakra, but he also helped Naruto in my opinion to master sage mode over the years. You can’t have everything I guess. I reakon this is a far better reason as to why Naruto mastered sage mode other than the fact he’s the hero of the series. And yes I know plot no jutsu is very powerful, but my theory is plausible.

Another instance where I believe the nine tail fox is making life difficult for Naruto (not in sage mode) is the rasengan. Even though he’s capable of making a technique like fuuton rasengan he still needs a clone to form a rasengan. It was stated by Jiraiya that Naruto can't spin his chakra randomly very well in one hand so Naruto uses a shadow clone to spin the chakra randomly while Naruto supplies the chakra and makes sure the chakra remains compressed during the random spins. Jiraiya implied at that time Naruto was too young to spin his chakra and Kakashi also stated Naruto is a bit young to use the Rasangan on top the hospital roof after the encounter between Naruto and Sasake. But after the time skip(3 years) Naruto was still unable to perform a rasengan with one hand and ironically three years was same amount of time it took the Forth hokage to complete the rasengan where the Forth hokage would have been able to do it in one hand, as Jiraiya has never saw the method used by Naruto to spin the chakra using hands up until that time. Konohamaru I believe is the exception, Naruto taught him the rasengan at a even younger age than he learned the move, so I'm willing to put it down to age as to why he needs a clone to form a rasengan. I then came to the conclusion Naruto has major difficulties spinning his chakra and it has nothing to with his age. Basically the fox is fooling around with Naruto’s chakra making it difficult for Naruto to spin, simply by being present in Naruto’s body. This also would explain why Naruto uses shadow clones a lot to bypass problems when he is forced to deal with high degrees of chakra control. But on the flip side with the ability to make so many clones he can train a lot faster than anyone else and his skill in using shadow clones increased through repeated use which allowed him to add wind chakra to the rasengan, again you can’t have everything.

Finally I’d like to sum up what I think is happening between Naruto and nine tails there are the obvious advantages the nine tails gives, stamina, regen, strength and speed etc. But also he tries to make Naruto dependent on him by being a burden and not allowing Naruto to use his chakra effectively. With this all in mind now I would like to share with you a cunning plan the Fox has been orchestrating from the very beginning. I see all the advantages the fox gives as bait to show that Naruto can confine in him to achieve Naruto's goals so Naruto would use him often. While the fox hides his true motives which we saw during the fight with Pain clearly was to be released. Now your all probably wondering how I could come up with such a conclusion with the nine tails fox orchestrating a complex plan for complete control over Naruto and here's why. Based on how the seal works it allows the nine tail's chakra leak from the seal and mix with Naruto’s over time. I also believe that “jutsu” the Forth left for Naruto to complete will accelerate this process. So the fox realizes he’s fighting a losing battle for control and eventually all of his chakra will mix with Naruto’s, which would explain the Nine-Tail’s reluctance to aid Naruto in battle and desperately trying to trick Naruto to take the seal off his cage like when he was fighting Pain.

Fox's Perspective

We are told by sakura at the start of the series and again by pa frog in the middle of part 2, the continual use of chakra exhausts the user's stamina(psychical energy/life energy what ever word you prefer). So once the user rests their stamina returns and so too their ability to mold chakra again.

Before I go any further the pages where either Jiraiya or Minato talk about what is actually sealed are commonly misunderstood. After the forth hokage was killed by the death god he later mentions to Naruto within his subconcuss he sealed half of the fox's chakra where chakra is made up of the two halves spiritual and physical energy. Jiraiya earlier in part 2 before he died against Nagato told us in fact the spiritual energy(yang) half was sealed within naruto by Minato. The red chakra we see naruto using while in fox mode is the fox's but as to how the fox uses his chakra despite the fact he only access to his spiritual energy is what I'm theorizing.

There are key differences with regards to the fox while he is in Naruto's body that can't be forgotten. In my opinion the way Naruto used(pre-so6p seal) the fox and vice versa is quite complicated and underrated by most. Naruto is a very unique host especially if you compare him to killer bee.

Chakra is created by mixing spiritual energy and physical energy together, how well you do this determines how good your chakra control is.

As we all know before the Fox was sealed within Naruto he had his full chakra (spiritual(yang) and physical(yin) energies). Minato sealed away the fox's physical(yin) energy within the death god and the spiritual(yang) energy within Naruto for him to use. Other than the fact Jiraiya explicitly said this, this is backed up further by the fact that Naruto(pre-so6P sealing) could only access the fox's spiritual energy via highly intensified emotion such as anger. The same way how Sasuke's evolution of his sharingan is driven by intensified emotion and we all know now the sharingan represents the spiritual energies of the so6p.

We also know Minato setup the seal in such a way to leak small amounts of the fox's spiritual energy over time. We were told Minato's seal was put in place to make sure Naruto didn't get taken over by the fox in his younger days until he was ready to take on the fox mentally and forgive himself for feeling dark emotions subconsciously about his village.

But lets look at this from the fox's perspective, he is character in the series and wants to be free.

Originally we all thought the red aura Naruto had while in fox mode was the fox's chakra as absolute. But spiritual energy on its own can't create chakra. It became the red chakra we came to love when the fox molded his spiritual energy with Naruto's physical energy. Which makes total sense as Naruto was barely in control in most of his fox-tail modes and this is further backed up how Naruto did a one handed rasengan while in fox mode against Sasuke. Now that the fox can mold chakra and can replenish his chakra with the help of Naruto's body he has an opportunity to reign havoc in the world once more. Jiraiya's statement about Naruto in 4-tail mode was "he is like a miniature kyuubi" further show us what the fox's plan was all along. And just because Naruto has resealed him now this doesn't mean his role in the story is over. After Naruto stole a large portion of the fox's spiritual energy the fox was still able to create the largest ball of energy we have ever since in the series to date.

I think kishi has already shown us Naruto's physical energy and the fox's spirtual energy merging for a chakra blast in four tail mode where the fox is firmly in control of Naruto's body.

I believe the blue balls are Naruto's physical energy and the red balls are the fox's spiritual energy, originally I though the red balls was Naruto's blood. But then it hit me, it can't be blood because Naruto's blood burned when it came into any contact with the fox's latter transformations.

That’s pretty much all I wanted to discuss, Lets us know what you guys think.

9 tails charkra only effects naruto when he uses it, naruto naturally has large charkra source without the 9 tails (kakashi states that naruto has 4 times more charkra than him during fuuton resen-shuriken training), naruto was a below average ninja with the guts to never give up... He was never gifted and he never practiced chrakra control... thats why he cant control his own chrakra. He uses a shadow clone to make the rasengan because he isnt skilled enougth to do it on his own, he has to split the 2 parts to the rasengan up. (Spinning and Releasing charkra) To make it easier for him. Not because the 9 tails is in his body, its locked behind a seal... 9 tails chrakra is only used when naruto shouts at the fox (Naruto v neji fight), Naruto's life is in danger (when he first succefully uses the summoning jutsu), when he gets angry (Orochimaru talking about sasuke on the bridge)... Now that naruto is a sage he has better control over his chrakra as thats what he needed to do to obtain the power of nature, which brings me to the point Naruto is a better stronger sage than Jiraya because the next generation always suppases the previous one. It was a nice read and it made me think about it.

Its pretty simple Naruto has better chakra control then Jiraiya, because he has Kyuubi which makes his chakra vastly harder to control then the average Ninja.

The seal constantly mixes the Kyuubi chakra into Naruto making it harder to control his own chakra [ all text in manga talking about the seal says as much]. This, however, is incremental and it becomes vastly more difficult to control when he forcibly extracts the Kyuubi's chakra.

...but why try to control a nuclear bomb...

Yea looks like we agree, but I always wondered why Pa frog didn't speculate about Naruto's success considering hes the first to master sage mode.

I think he was amazed, since Naruto is widely regarded as an idiot. Which is an inaccurate statement its more like Naruto is uneducated making complicated discussion go over his head. If you break a topic down to the most simple components Naruto will grasp it very quickly.

Naruto is a genius I made a thread about it a long time ago and this is why. He can grasp concepts and figure out ways to make it seem so simple when to others the task may be insurmountable. "Oh I'll just use a clone to do it" ... as Kakashi said even so noone else but Naruto could use that tactic and have it work.

i agree, he is a genius, especially now mastered the use of his shadow clones especially with the fight between kakuzu and naruto. Analyzing the situation on kakuzu style of fighting.

Looks like a lot people think by being a genius you can balance natural energy with your own chakra perfectly to obtain true sage mode.

Well I have a question for all who believe that.

If all you need to be is a genius to balance the two chakras why wasn't the forth hokage (considered a genius once a generation) even mentioned he was competent in using natural energy by Pa frog? Even though he clearly had a contract with the frogs as he was able to summon gambunta.

When Naruto obtained sage mode he was constantly bench-marked to the next best user and that was Jiraya, and this was by Pa frog.
