Ichigo Overrated?

Ichigo could have easily killed Byakuya who would have been unable to defend himself, Ichigo wasn't interested in killing him showed off and was almost killed by his own Bankai.

Since that moment in time his Reiatsu has become unstable varying from incredibly weak to being stronger then Uliquarra.

Ichigo's Bankai gives him overwhelming speed and nothing else it does not increase his reiatsu or his power. How ever he can't use it to its full potential given it kills him at full strength.

Ichigo also hasn't mastered his Hollow so he is not even using a fraction of his hollow's power.

As we saw Ichigo's hollow easily obliterated Uliquarra without putting forth any effort at all.

So saying he is weak due to poor storytelling is like looking at the pictures without catching the subtext....

Releasing bankai per definition improves a shinigami's strength times ten. The unique part with Ichigo's bankai is that it's reduced in size, allowing a lot of the brute force which the bankai itself usually gives to the wielder make Ichigo faster. So instead of having one slow and strong bankai such as Mayuri's or Komamura's, Ichigo's bankai enhances his own fighting power instead of relying on his zanpakuto.

How ever he can't use it to its full potential given it kills him at full strength.

Source for this? The only time when the bankai damaged him was because he was untrained. We've never seen that happen since the Byakuya fight.

Actually that statement isn't entirely accurate.

There is another Bankai that only improves the users offensive ability and nothing else.

We have also never seen Ichigo move that fast since the Byakuya fight.


How ever we do know that Ichigo's upper limit is higher then Uliquarra in his released state.

Ichigo just has a stupidly strong will to win. The fights he "won" and the fights he won, he only did because he reeeeeeally wanted to.

About his strength though, the way I always looked at it was that Ichigo didn't necessarily get stronger in the sense of an increase in power level - like going from 500 to 1000. The power was always at a constant number if you will, he's just slowly been learning how to access, control and harness more of it.

On the other hand, I think talking about main characters' situations in any form of media, especially manga, is kind of dumb. They do whatever they need to in order for the plot to move forward.

I agree with Frost, from the start of the series we have seen ichigo's abilities and fighting techniques as sloppy and week, yet had to always rely on his inner hollow and now with his bankai for his crazy god-like strength and abilities. And to the recent episodes he hasnt reali changed at all. If anything the only improvement that he has accomplished is to control his inner hollow.

If you go back you will discover that Ichigo has been supressing a vast majority of his Reiatsu to the point where only a small trickle was escaping. That small trickle was enough that Ichigo could throw off Rukia's kidou with sheer willpower.

Ichigo has always had captain class Reiatsu. Urahara didn't teach Ichigo while they were sparring, because there was nothing he could teach him. If Ichigo wanted to use Zangetsu better he had to have Zangetsu teach him.

Byakuya even admitted that Zangetsu in Shikai was strong enough to obliterate his Bankai, but for the one small problem that its attack was too slow.

Ichigo is also the only true Vaizard he became a Hollow at the same moment he became a real shinigami hence the Hollow mask and the Shinigami costume.

that seems logical, yet i cannot see the 13 gotei recognize his abilities and allow him 2 become a captain class, even though from what we have seen his power alone can almost over-power them all.

The Gotei 13 already recognizes Ichigo as a Captain class fighter. You're really talking about them making him an actual Captain. But Ichigo is not dead yet so he won't be able to become a Captain until he dies.
