Does that mean that the First's family's weapons were converted into box weapons? or does it mean that the Vongola had box-technology for a lot longer than everyone else in the Mafia world?

Wrong, The Vongola Box weapons were remodelled by the Vongolas themselves. The Vongola box animals can turn into weps, and those weps belonged to the first generation of Vongola 0,0, I think ;P

Who are the Vongola that they are talking about though? The IX and his family? or 10 years later Tsuna?

Who would be capable of such a customization? Would Giannini or his father be able to do it, or would you need one of the 3 original inventors of the boxes?

I assume that since the Sky Lion series "cannot be copied" that one of the 3 originals had to have at least made the original boxes and then maybe, maybe somebody else could've modified them.

I'd like to see another translation of the Lion's name... Natsu isn't bad... Though I guess it could be confused with Natsu from Fairy Tail.

The Vongola is a really big organization. Lal already said that aside from the original XXX number of animal box weapons by the three inventors, they were able to make storage boxes, weapons etc.

So I'm guessing there has to be someone in the Vongola that has learned about the boxes and is able to make their own. The future Hibari went around learning about the boxes - those information by be sent to the Vongola allowing them to replicate an animal box.

To be honest, you're thinking too much into it. :C
I mean, it's the Vongola we're talking about. Surely they have the technology and skills to make box weapons too.

And Nutz is a very bad translation for his name. I really did laugh when I read him calling him Nutz. Peanuts would've been better. (not to mention cuter!)
