Fun things to do on the internet

    Greetings one and all:

Like anyone else, sometimes I get bored and want something fun to do. Problem is, my tastes and proclivities impose limits on the things I even want to do, for example:

    1) I hate sports
    2) Can't stand comedy
    3) Want no part of drama, romance, tragedy, horror, or fiction (quality sci-fi excepted).
    4) No outdoors for me (what's fun about outdoor toilets, cold/heat, mosquitoes, ants, dust, etc the pic?)
    5) I'm too cheap to spend money on much (occasionally taking the family out to dinner or a movie is fine)
    6) Video games....well, they can be too fast, or spendy...well possibly if it's the right type.

So I've been thinking, this is the World Wide Web, there have to be billions of things out there. Lately I've been spending more and more time here at Mangashare, but let's face it, there are times when MS is not hopping.

I'd like to ask you guys and gals:

    1) What things do you find to be fun to do on the internet, or in real life

    2) What do you recommend for me to try?

(PS. Let's leave out the porn industry...... )

    EDIT:

I have been so thrilled by the number of quality, fantastic things you guys have suggested. I would like to open up this thread so that anyone may benefit from it, not just me. From here on, please post your suggestions for all MS fans, not just for me and my rather narrow interest scope. Let's make this a way to entertain and keep everyone having good clean fun on the internet.

(Thanks for not putting porn in here so far, let's keep it clean (my kids won't let me off the hook...know what I mean?)

My first internet addiction was an online text-based MUD Achaea (www.achaea.com). Basically it's an mmorpg without the graphics, so the allure comes from actually playing a role rather than gaining levels, money, and all that jazz. There are actually complex organizations you may want to enter politics in.

You may want to try it out. There are a lot of others similar to it, when I stopped playing they were talking about a sci-fi MUD, but I don't think it's up yet.

Do you know if there is a spectator mode on those mmorpg sites ? If there were, it could be entertaining (sure beats college football/basketball in my mind).

BTW, I am checking out your link already..thanks

Online Chess or Go/Weiqi/Baduk? Depending on format can be at a nice languid pace or faster and more competitive, complexity within simple rules means it can be either a passing and fun interest or a lifelong obsession. Lacks the tactile and aesthetic appeal of real pieces and boards but has nice accessibility and a range of people to play, can be reasonably social depending on the server/website in question.

Casual surfing, I actually find the much maligned Wikipedia incredible for this, in the past I've read about the lifecycles of honeybees, the history of Belgium and details on the mechanics of glassblowing within a few minutes and simply by following links around the place. TVTropes is another place that's got a lot of interesting stuff, particularly if you're a movie/Manga/literature/comic/TV buff (Which is to say, the majority of the population I guess. ) or have an interest in writing.

You may see some logs at their forums forums.achaea.com . You'll mostly see combat ones, though, which may be rather complex. But you can see some favourite moments or conversations. I found it fun getting elected to important positions, exploring the mythos, and fighting, all without graphics .

I used to be really active over there at the forums, but I quit when I started becoming sick. Just don't get into debates on real life politics, there are a lot of radical liberals over there .

I usually play games on ijji or aeria(both host plenty of free mmorpg's and more). But my favorite thing to do is troll gaiaonline.

I think something that would/might appeal to me is a spectator mode on an online game. Does anyone know of any such site with a spectator mode?

I don't wanna play (too fast, too complex), but I won't mind watching others blasting each other to bits.
