MS vs BE -
04-19-2008, 07:09 PM
I'm curious about a couple things. First of all, is this a MangaShare issue or is a Binktopia issue? or am i getting it confused that they are two separate entities? i.e. if a scanlation group were to pay an amount of money would they also be able to get their releases hosted by MangaShare? to raise the issue in context, if another group has a similar issue with a site removing credits or such, would MS take the same stance/show the same support there?
Also, seeing that the issue won't be resolved any time soon (after reading the page, i can see that dyne is clearly a stubborn (wo)man. How long will this battle or namely the big huge banner (not that i mind, just curious) stay on the front page of the site? Last question, is there a chance of this whole thing escalating out of control and the users being penalised by finding Binktopia releases watermarked? |

Well despite our best efforts to be fair to all with MangaShare, it's run by the exact same people who are staff in Binktopia. Taking advantage of the popular homepage to relay our message is a privilege we didn't have back in the bsmanga days when I was having issues with NarutoFan -- thus I was forced to run a page inside releases to get the message across.
If another group was under a similar issue and approached us about it, and we felt that it would benefit the community to be informed about it we would definitely help them out using that space at the top where I like to relay news & messages. Not sure how long it will stay up at this point, chances are the giant red box will eventually be shrunken down to a link at the top - similar to how mangaupdates has the anti nf page linked at the top. Out of the way, but still there. It's been suggested by a few staff that watermarking is an option, but at this point in time I'm leaning against it. I think some better options are to have faded messages in the margins to at least make it a pain in the ass for them to host our releases (since they'll definitely go through each page and brush it out). |

I know I don't post much, but let me say that I'm sure I and most other readers that download scanlations from your group and others really appreciate it every week. All this free work and the enjoyment of processing all of these steps for us users to read manga is a privilege that we always look forward to.
After reading the news post about BE taking off the credits page and making users pay for their manga (Which reminds me of Tazmo and his site of NF), all I have to say is fight on. Doing something like this is despicable, and if it requires watermarking the pages that you or other groups release, then what has to be done must be done. Like what blud said, I am also lenient towards this method, but if it's the only way to go against these guys, then do it. Hopefully a better method or resolve would follow this problem. Side note here: Are there specific sites or tutorials I can find about the processes of cleaning/typesetting/etc. for any kind of manga work? I was recently interested in QCing and also decided to check out this process as well. Many thanks in advance. |

MH Academy is a good place to start. I'm not sure if they have any info on QC'ing but they definitely have some tutorials on cleaning & typesetting.

Considering how much work goes into a scan, i think its a damn cheek to remove another groups credits page and directly or indirectly take credit for the work. And then to raise that much in "donations" and still plaster the site with ads? If thats all going towards their server cost all i can say is i hope those are the best servers on the planet.
Go on Bluds, watermark a couple of chapters just to screw them over |

Scanlators before hosts, if the arsewipes at BE don't like your credit page then they're free to wait and host another groups release instead. I even asked Kenpachi's opinion on this seeing as they're using the name of his series in their website.

Apparently they are, can I can't believe these guys are pocketing more than a thousand dollars a month, off of work that isn't theirs in any way or shape. It amazes me people can be suckered into stuff like this so easily.
This is their first one from binktopia in a while, most of them are from Maximum 7. It is apparent that Blud doesn't want them on there at all because of Bleach Exile's scam, thats where the problem lies. ![]() |
