- Madara wasn't able to complete his plan by himself, and what he needed was an uzumaki that could do it for him. If the uzumaki stayed all gathered in their village, bound to one another, he would have never gotten the chance to influence one of them. So he destroyed the clan and left a few alive for his own purposes. He did pretty much what orochimaru did with sasuke. He couldn't lay a hand on an adult strong uchiha, so he targeted a weak young one. Madara weakened the uzumaki and led to the destruction of their sealing skills and then he targeted nagato, who was still young and weak.
Let's not forget one thing, the alliance between Konoha and Edy could be more for various reasons.
The 3 Jinchūriki's for Kurama, were/are; Hashirama's wife, Kushina and now Naruto, so not only for the sealing techs (i think minato was one of the few or the only non Uzumaki to learn them), but also for the most perfect candidates for a Jinchūriki's role (excluding Bee and Hachibi), due to their special chakra and life force.
Adding some eventual blood relationship, one could assume some very strong bonds/agreement between the 2 villages.
To Madara, a strong Jinchūriki would only be a nuisance in an attempted to take control of the ninetails or any other tailed beast that could eventually be sealed in an Uzumaki.
Why do you call the whirlpool/uzumaki, Edy?
I don't get it...:/
I believe Hidden Eddy village is the english translation. or it may just be what they call the village for english readers/viewers.
