Like most people said use Winrar. It's really good and I cant live without it xD. It isnt free but like mIRC you get a pop-up window (this one without waiting, so it really isnt a problem).

how do u download winrar and is it free?
I know there are some free versions of winrar on the web... If i find the link, i will post it later, or else i upload the instalator to mediafire

WinRAR is not freeware. It is shareware ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shareware ). Meaning unless you buy it or crack it (which is most probably illegal in most places), it will nag you to buy it.
I recommend you use 7-zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/ ) or if you like a program with a shiny GUI, PeaZip ( http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ ) (both are freeware and open source). They can extract ZIP, RAR and 7z, among other file compression formats.
7-zip and PeaZip can also compress to the superior 7z format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._of_efficiency), which is also an open format, unlike RAR, which due to its proprietary (non free & non open source) nature can only be compressed by WinRAR and other programs that are licensed to do so by the WinRAR author.
Also, when compressing ZIP files, 7-Zip uses a home-brewed DEFLATE encoder which is often able to achieve higher compression levels than the more common DEFLATE implementation of zlib ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-zip#O...ported_formats ).
