When was that announcement made? When I look at Yukimura's previous work Planetes it had an anime adaption 2 years after the manga started, which is about how long Vinland Saga has been going on to. So maybe we will see an anime this fall perhaps.
It will be made in the next issue of Afternoon, in which Vinland Saga is serialized.
Believe me, anime companies really don't care about starting too early with an adaption of popular manga.
Wow, an anime of Vinland Saga, that will be great! I thought VS was not enough popular around Japan to make an anime about it :p
