A month ago I wouldn't have been caught dead reading a shoujo manga. I'd read Berserk, listen to some heavy metal, and lift weights to increase my killing strength. I maintained this lifestyle by selling surplusses from my proposterous amounts of testosterone to the guys who made 'Powerthirst', and even gave a few pro-tips to Chuck Norris regarding 'how to be a man'.
However, recently I seem to have lost my menergy... in the past month, I have undergone a romance manga addiction. Following my exposure to Love Hina, Negima, Ichigo 100%, and I"s... with no healthy Shonen romances left to turn to, like a crackwhore on steroids (possibly NOT a simile), I turned to Bitter Virgin, Midnight Secretary, Fruits Basket, Vampire Knight, Desire Climax, Boku ni Natta Watashi, and Skip Beat. I can safely say that I have never been as involved with a manga as I was with Ichigo 100% or Skip Beat, at least not since Berserk went on hiatus; I read both series in 2 sittings, stopping only to eat, sleep, and take care of my body's base needs.
I don't know what to believe in anymore. My entire life feels like it's closing in around me in the form of cute schoolgirls and cute schoolgirl-ish men. I'm living in an endless web of addiction to a manga form that destroys my very mojo; every time I finish a series or run out of chapters, I become aggrivated, reckless, and fixated on killing, like a shark swimming in a small tank full of electric eels, itching to tear apart the laughing scientists taking notes above. I shall stain their white lab coats and clipboards red with blood if there is not more Skip Beat produced, and NOW!
To conclude, I guess what I'm getting at is that there's nothing wrong with Shoujo. I think in a way, Fruits Basket is just like Gantz.
P.S.
I was depressed over Toujo not being picked by Manaka in Ichigo 100% for over a week, and still feel tears well up whenever I think about her misfortune... every chance she got, something ruined it. Like anyone else who read that series, I decided the best thing to do would be to make an AMV in which I sync'd some famous shonen romance/harem animes to Slayer's "Raining Blood" and edited it to make it look like Guts was slaughtering them all... luckily before I did all that, I found Elfen Lied, and was satisfied with that. In fact, there are several good Elfen Lied/"Raining Blood" AMVs on Youtube.
lol, I wasn't "that manly" giving chuck noris advice, but I had a similar problem... however, I skipped the shounen romance steps :D
this thread is almost a year old...
anyway personally i won't read them. its not a masculine thing i just dont find them appealing
