Do girls watch any of the Gundam series or any mecha anime in general?

I had a Japanese student before and she was a big fun of the Gundam series. The first ever Gundam she has watched was also the very first Gundam series. She told me that her father still have the 'betamax' which is like the first VHS or some sort. She was also a big fan of Gundam Wing, Seed and Destiny. It influenced her a lot that she choose international law as her major in university. Because of it, she got interested into international politics and diplomacy. Well, like the main characters, she's a pacifist. The manga 'Hetalia' influenced her also in the same way.
