I don't want to be Johnny Raincloud here, but now that I think of it, I wouldn't read too much into Hashirama's and Madara's fight. What made fighting the Sharingan so incredibly difficult was, that the moment you look a Sharingan-user in their eyes, you are lost, and you need someone else (Bijuu, companion), to snap you out of it. It's even worse with the Mangekyou-Sharingan. In the fight we just saw, Madara is virtually reduced to an uber-strong fighter. I agree, Kurama with a Susano'o-cloak is an incredible move, but Madara is not extremely clever, just extremely powerful. In a way, Kishi downplayed the dangers that are involved when someone fights the Sharingan.
