IRC Channel (Rules updated 1/12/08)

Sorry. I asked that question in the wrong thread.

When I attempt to log on I am given this

Is this a problem with your network, or my connection? (I used to be able to log on fine, and I haven't changed a thing :/ )

Also, for IRC newcomers, you might consider telling them that they have to change their username in some way, otherwise they will be kicked. (Apparently all screennames are banned as Nicknames).

For Example:
Calcifer = Bannable Offence
+Calcifer = Totally OK

Erroneous Nickname usually pops up if you use a character in your nick that isn't ASCII, Did you have some Katakana in your name or something?

No, I was trying to use "+Calcifer".

Yeah you can't use + signs.

You can't use "+" because it's a symbol that the networks use to represent a status (in this case, voice). You also can't use !, @, %, and sometimes ~. They do it so there's no confusion between the normal user names and the users with status on a particular channel.

After signing in and out 3 times (once initially, then to change my name, and then because I accidentally forgot the "1" at the end of my name) I was marked as a spam-bot. How long do I have to wait for my IP to be forgotten/cleared, or is it something an administrator has to clear for me? If so, please do so, IRC is more fun than the regular MS :D

That's something you're going to have to deal with the network admins directly. I'll direct someone who can do something towards the post.

Edit: Just do what the third line from the bottom says on your log. That's the easiest way to fix this.

I figured the admins would be faster, I'll email the irc network.
